The LAPIS project constitutes the efforts of some specialists of epigraphy and history at a number of German and other universities/cultural institutions to integrate in a "virtual" library the mediaeval and modern inscriptions from the former Hanseatic territories through digital images and detailed catalog records and bibliography that will provide information pertaining to the external and the internal characteristics of each epigraphical object.
